Wood Metal Detector Can Save Money And Reduce Waste

February 26,2021

Metal parts hidden in wood will always bring an unpleasant experience to the wood industry: although contamination from smaller metal parts is acceptable, our machines are likely to be damaged, such as long downtime. If you don't care about these metal parts, it is very likely to affect the handling of valuable tree trunks. Sheeted wood metal detector can effectively protect machines, and it can reduce waste of valuable wood.

Metal detector for the wood industry

The working principle of wood metal detector

A special instrument for detecting whether there are metal objects embedded in wood for safe production. The metal detector is usually a circular body with a diameter of 60 ~75 cm, which is directly installed on the wood transportation chain. When the wood passes the metal detector, the instrument can send out an alarm signal to achieve the purpose of detection.

The receiving part of the detection head is two sets of symmetrical and differentially connected coils. Ideally, the differential potential at static state is zero. When a metal object passes through the detection head at a certain speed, the magnetic field distribution in the detection head will be locally distorted, and a small amount of differential electric potential will be generated in the receiving coil. The pulse carrier signal is coupled by the receiving matching transformer of the detection head and sent by the frequency selective amplifier. After amplifying, it is detected by the detector. After the detected pulse signal is amplified by the low-frequency amplifier, the monostable trigger and the relay are pushed, the alarm light will automatically light up, and the control contact will output a control signal to achieve the purpose of automatic detection.

Pay attention to the downtime mentioned above

If you allow smaller metal parts to be stored in the machine, I can tell you the fact that metal contamination in wood can be very expensive. According to the technical manager of a large German particleboard factory, the cost of one hour of downtime for maintenance is about 5,000 euros. So don't let this risk exist and don't spend extra money.

Reduce costs

When the wood is contaminated by large metal parts, you need to clean the wood before entering the machine. This step also wastes additional valuable materials. However, if you use wood metal detectors or sheeted wood metal detectors suitable for the wood industry, these costs will be reduced.

Some small metal parts will not have a great effect on the machine, will not be damaged, and will not have a great impact on subsequent processing. Moreover, the wood detector can more accurately detect the metal inside and outside the wood. So It is wise to get to start with wood or sheeted wood metal detector.
